What is lupus?

Lupus is a chronic and inflammatory autoimmune disease that affects collagen, the protein common in all our tissues; the attack on the immune system occurs in part of the body where there is collagen, from the skin or joints to any of our organs (lungs, kidneys, liver …). This means that this tissue is destroyed and consequently the functionality of the affected organs is eliminated or diminished.

Lupus causes inflammation, pain and damage to affected parts of the body.

Can it be treated?

A chronic disease means that the signs and symptoms tend to last longer than six weeks and can often last for many years, but not that it cannot be controlled. At Biosalud Day Hospital, we develop effective biological medicine treatments that eliminate the causes of autoimmune disease.

Lupus treatment

At Biosalud we design personalized treatments with the techniques that allow us to regulate the immune system. In case it is necessary to promote the correct functioning of a damaged organ, we will do it through biological medicine.

Our aim is to give the patient a maximum level of comfort in their daily life, always trying to regulate the immune system which will put an end to this pathology or, at least, try at least to control it.

On many occasions, the true nature of a disease is Lyme Disease

Is there only one type of lupus?

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most serious. SLE can affect almost any organ or system in the body, including the blood vessels, muscles, joints, digestive tract, lungs, kidneys, heart, and central nervous system.
Discoid lupus causes a high, scaly red rash, usually on the face, scalp, and neck, and can cause scarring.
Drug-induced lupus is a type of lupus that is caused by prescription medications. The symptoms are similar to those of SLE; and once the medication is stopped, the symptoms usually stop.
Neonatal lupus is a rare disease that can affect some newborns of women with SLE or certain other disorders of the immune system. These babies can have a heart defect, skin rashes, low blood counts and / or liver problems. However, most newborns of mothers with SLE are born healthy.
